NewsMaksat to run with Toktarov; Tologonov retires
The DPI names the Governor's son-in-law as his running mate in November; the Lieutenant Governor since 2007 will leave office when his term ends.
TALAS — The Democratic Party of Irad yesterday named Aidar Maksat, head of the governorate's Department of Infrastructure and Communications, as Governor Erlan Toktarov's running mate in the gubernatorial election on 5 November. Lieutenant Governor Daniyar Tologonov, 69, who has held the office since 2007, "retires with the gratitude of the Republic", the party said in a statement read on OneNews at Eight.
Mr. Tologonov did not attend the announcement and could not be reached for comment. He has rarely appeared beside the Governor since 2017, when the press first reported a falling-out between the two men; neither has ever commented on the reports.
Mr. Maksat, 39, is married to the Governor's daughter, Zara Toktarova. Opposition figures called the choice "a family appointment".
